It looks like Google is Now Providing Phone Support for Places Verification :: What Took Them So Long?

It’s hard to know just how much emphasis Google is placing on their whole Local thrust with the way they seem to neglect it, however this new Phone support is music to the ears of a Local Internet Marketing Agency like ours here at Local Oxygen with so many clients to maintain.

I’m guessing Google is trying to mend some bridges here and one can only hope this means some end to the somewhat chaotic Google+ local/Google places transition, management and optimization.

Here’s How You Receive a Phone call from Google

This is an example of how we sorted out a verification issue where Google actually called us back! Almost fell off my chair:o)

STEP #1

The first thing you need to do is go to the Google Support pages where you tell them the specific issue and they can filter out problems that don’t apply.

To sort out the Verification by Phone simply click on the second link “Verification Issue”

Answer the questions in this section as best you can.

There are a few questions to answer because Google of course wants to make the Phone call a last resort if they can.

Keep in mind not all instances will end up in a phone verification, some certainly will.

Now that you have completed the form you will be presented with the contact us form to leave your details and wait for a return phone call.

Google is not known for offering phone support for virtually any of their services, even colleagues of ours here at Local Oxygen who have large Google Adwords accounts have had difficulty getting decent telephone support and these guys are spending tens of thousands of Adwords… Amazing!

This definitely says to us that Google is trying very hard to re-establish their credibility and trust among business owners, both for the Local Businesses themselves and Local Marketing Agencies like ours!

Reviews are very important to our Google Places optimization, so when is it NOT OK to encourage Reviews?

At least not with Money or Product incentives!

Here at Local Oxygen we are always looking for new ways to enhance our Local Clients Google Places listings but of course staying within the Google Guidelines.

Recently we had a business who wanted to run contests to get customers to leave reviews, however Mike Blumenthal mentions that Google has come out and stated that incentives used to gain reviews are no go!

This is taken directly from Google Places quality guidelines:

Reviews are only valuable when they are honest and unbiased. For instance, as a business owner or employee you should not review your own business or current place of work.

Don’t offer money or product to others to write reviews for your business or write negative reviews about a competitor. We also discourage specialized review stations or kiosks set up at your place of business for the sole purpose of soliciting reviews.

As a reviewer, you should not accept money or product from a business to write a review about them. Additionally, don’t feel compelled to review a certain way just because an employee of that business asked you to do so. Finally, don’t post reviews on behalf of others or misrepresent your identity or affiliation with the place you are reviewing.

Seems a bit unfair here since you are not required to give a positive review in order to qualify.

Since the May 2012 update it looks like Google is definitely making it a clear case that you are not to solicit reviews by offering money or product in any way.
